My name is Cathy Spee and sadly I did not grow up reading many children’s books. Children’s books were hard to find in Colombia and extremely expensive. All I could afford (20 cents at the time) were small yellow booklets with short stories found at the local grocery store. They provided me inspiration and desire to know more.
I studied Advertising and Computer Animation at the university level in both Colombia and near my current home in Miami. I teach Art and Art History to students in kindergarten through high school (kids are crazy fun to find inspiration). As time passes, I use all of those skills to create compelling narrative illustrations.
With my very fulfilling teaching career (in other words, not a lot of money) I have been privileged to travel with students to Spain, Britain, and Italy. These travels have inspired me to write and illustrate about Historical people, places and other cultures. I believe that books can be entertaining as well as educational.
